UNESCOs World Heritage Sustainable Tourism Programme offers a toolkit currently including two different resources: 10 'How-To' guides and the VMAST. But how does these resources complement each other and how can they be combined to improve practice?
How-To guides
A step-by-step process for site managers.
- Guides 1-4 establish the basic foundations for sustainable tourism.
- Guides 5-10 are tailored to more specific issues, which will have greater relevance at some sites than at others.
VMAST
A self-assessment and strategy development tool. Focus on how to manage tourism for protection of heritage and localisation of the UNSDGs. 4 goals, 40 management objectives, more than 200 target indicators.
